Southern Methodist University ACT scores?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to apply to Southern Methodist University next year and I was wondering, what range of ACT scores do they typically accept? Also, has anyone here applied with a lower score and still gotten in?

Hello! Southern Methodist University (SMU) admits students with a variety of ACT scores. For the incoming class at SMU, the middle 50% ACT scores range from 30 to 34. This means that 25% of admitted students have scores below 30, and 25% have scores above 34.

While this range encompasses most of the admitted students, exceptional applicants might still be able to get in with a lower score if they have a strong overall application. Your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation will all be important factors in the admissions process. If you have a compelling personal story or outstanding achievements in other areas, it may help to offset a lower ACT score.

That said, it's a good idea to aim for a score within SMU's middle 50% range or higher to put yourself in the most competitive position. If your current ACT score falls below the 30 threshold, consider re-taking the test or trying the SAT as an alternative. Keep in mind that a strong application also showcases a rigorous high school curriculum, good grades, and meaningful extracurricular involvement.

Best of luck with your application to SMU!
