Admissions requirements for Indiana University?

I'm currently a high school junior and considering applying to Indiana University. Can anyone tell me what the admissions requirements are, like GPA and test scores?

Indiana University Bloomington (IU) practices a holistic review process when it comes to admissions, which means they look at a variety of factors to determine your suitability as a candidate. That said, there are still key components of your application that play a significant role in the decision-making process.

1. High school coursework: Indiana University is interested in the rigor of the curricula you took during your high school years, specifically paying close attention to your performance in core academic subjects. They recommend a minimum of the following:

- 4 years of English

- 3 years of math (including Algebra II and higher)

- 3 years of social science

- 3 years of science (including two years of lab sciences)

- 4 years of additional college preparatory courses (this could include foreign language, art, or music)

2. GPA: Although there isn't an absolute minimum GPA, the middle 50% of admitted students usually have a GPA between 3.7 and 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. Of course, a higher GPA can help improve your chances.

3. Standardized test scores: For the 2024-2025 application cycle, IU is test-optional, which means they will not require SAT or ACT scores. If you choose to submit these scores, they will be considered in the admissions process. For context, the middle 50% range on the SAT for accepted students is 1210–1420, and the middle 50% for the ACT is 28-33. If you're unsure whether or not to submit your score and want detailed guidance on how to navigate test-optional policies, check out this blog post from CollegeVine: https://blog.collegevine.com/does-test-optional-mean-test-optional

4. Extracurricular activities: Be sure to highlight your participation and leadership in activities both in and outside of school that demonstrate your interests, talents, and commitment.

5. Essays: IU Bloomington typically requires at least one school-specific supplemental essay, which is a great opportunity to build a concrete connection between yourself and the school. 6. Letters of recommendation: Although not required, some students choose to submit letters of recommendation to support their application further, by contextualizing their more objective achievements. You can submit up to one teacher recommendation and one counselor recommendation.

Make sure to convey your strengths through each component of your application, and to check for any additional requirements or recommendations for specific programs or majors within Indiana University. Good luck!
