Do colleges prefer traditional essays or creative writing?

Hello, I have a question about the writing style for college essays. Do colleges generally prefer traditional essay writing, or are they open to more creative writing styles? I enjoy creative writing and think it would make me stand out, but I don't want to take any risks. Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi there!

I think it's great that you enjoy creative writing and want to showcase it in your college essays. My child had a similar dilemma when applying to colleges, and they ended up striking a balance between traditional essay writing and their own creative style.

It's important to remember that college admissions officers are generally open to various writing styles, as long as you're able to convey your thoughts clearly and answer the essay prompt effectively. Creativity can definitely make your essay stand out, but make sure it doesn't overshadow the message you want to get across.
