In what grade do students usually take physics?

When do most high schools offer physics courses? I'm planning my high school course load and I want to figure out when I should take physics.

High schools can differ in their typical course sequences for science subjects, but most students take physics in either 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. Typically, the science course sequence begins with a foundational year (often 9th grade) in which students take biology. After that, schools may offer chemistry in 10th grade, followed by physics in 11th grade. Alternatively, some schools may have students take a general science or earth science course in 10th grade and then move on to physics in 11th grade. Some high schools allow students to choose whether to take physics in 11th or 12th grade, depending on their individual preferences, course load, and potential advanced courses.

When deciding which year to take physics, consider your other course options, strengths in math and science, and any prerequisites for the physics course at your particular high school. In some cases, schools may require you to complete certain math classes before taking physics to ensure you have a strong foundation in algebra and trigonometry. Discussing your course plan with a guidance counselor can be helpful in determining the best time for you to take physics.
