March SAT curve?

Hi fellow students! I've been hearing some rumors about the March SAT curve being harsh or generous. What does this mean and how significant is the curve for this specific test date? Any past experience would be great to know. Thanks!

Hi there! It's important to keep in mind that the SAT is a standardized test, meaning that the scoring is designed to maintain a consistent level of difficulty from test to test. To do this, the College Board uses a process called equating, which accounts for minor differences in test difficulty. This allows them to compare scores across different test dates fairly.

The "curve" refers to how the equating process adjusts raw scores (the number of correct answers) to derive the final scaled score. A "harsh" curve means that a few incorrect answers may lead to a bigger drop in your scaled score, while a "generous" curve means that you can miss a few questions and still maintain a high score.

It is worth noting that predicting the curve for any particular SAT test date is speculative and unreliable, as it's based on the specific test's difficulty and the performance of all the test-takers on that day. Furthermore, past experience does not guarantee the same curve for future exams.

Instead of focusing on the curve, it's more beneficial to concentrate on preparing for the test to the best of your ability. Make sure you're thoroughly reviewing the material, practicing with official College Board SAT questions, and taking timed practice tests to become more comfortable with the test format. Good luck!
