What's considered a solid SAT score?

Hey guys, I know there's lots of stuff online about this, but I wanted to get opinions from the CollegeVine community. What do you think is a good SAT score to aim for? I'm aiming for top 50 schools, if that helps. Thanks!

A solid SAT score really depends on the schools you're targeting and your overall application. Since you mentioned you're aiming for top 50 schools, it's useful to look at the middle 50% SAT scores for those institutions. For most top 50 schools, a competitive SAT score usually falls within the range of 1350-1550, where the middle 50% of admitted students scored between the 25th and 75th percentiles.

Of course, there is some variation among schools, and it's important to research the specific scores for each institution you're interested in. A good starting point is to aim for a score above the 75th percentile at your target schools, as it can improve your odds of admission. However, remember that standardized test scores are just one component of the admissions process, especially at selective schools that often have holistic admissions processes. Even with a strong SAT score, it's essential to have a well-rounded application, including strong coursework, extracurricular involvement, and compelling essays.

Keep in mind that some schools are test-optional or test-blind for the 2024-2025 application cycle, so SAT scores might not be required at all institutions you're applying to. It's essential to verify each school's specific testing policies as you plan your application.

We wish you the best of luck with your college admissions journey!
