Is tutoring an extracurricular activity?

Hello everyone! I volunteer as a tutor for my peers and younger students after school. I'm unsure if tutoring would be considered an extracurricular activity on college applications. Can anyone provide some clarification? Thanks in advance!

Hello! It's great to see that you're involved in volunteering as a tutor. Tutoring can indeed be considered an extracurricular activity on college applications.

Generally, extracurricular activities are experiences or commitments you engage in outside of your regular classroom studies. This can include club memberships, sports, volunteer work, or part-time jobs. Providing tutoring assistance to your peers and younger students definitely falls into the category of extracurricular activities.

The key to deciding whether or not to include an activity in your college application is thinking about whether it shows skills that colleges value. In the case of tutoring, the answer there is definitely yes, because you're showing admissions officers that you're committed to fostering a positive learning environment and leadership skills, making you a desirable candidate for their school.
