What's AP Seminar all about?

Hey fellow students! What exactly is AP Seminar? I've heard a bit about it, but I'd like to understand more before deciding if I should take the course next year. Can anyone share some info?

Hi there! AP Seminar is a course that's part of the AP Capstone program, which also includes AP Research. These two courses are designed to help you develop research, collaboration, and communication skills. AP Seminar focuses on critical thinking, analyzing arguments, and evaluating multiple perspectives.

In AP Seminar, you'll be exposed to a diverse range of topics and themes. Throughout the course, you will work individually and in teams to investigate real-world issues or problems. This involves conducting in-depth research, evaluating evidence, and formulating well-reasoned arguments. The course also emphasizes public speaking and presentation skills, as you'll present your research findings to your peers and teachers.

AP Seminar is assessed through two main components: the Individual Research Report (IRR) and the Team Multimedia Presentation (TMP). You'll work on these projects throughout the year. Additionally, there's an end-of-course exam, which tests your ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources. The exam consists of three tasks: analyzing a research study, comparing arguments on a single topic, and developing an argument based on provided sources.

Completing AP Seminar and AP Research with a score of 3 or higher on both AP Exams can earn you the AP Capstone Diploma™ or the AP Seminar and Research Certificate™. These achievements can make you stand out to college admissions committees, as they demonstrate your advanced skills in research, writing, and communication.

If you enjoy critical thinking, problem-solving, and working collaboratively, AP Seminar might be a great fit for you. Plus, it can serve as a solid foundation for college-level courses and help you develop valuable skills that will benefit you throughout your academic and professional career. Good luck with your decision!
