Ideal ACT Time Per Question?

I'm trying to maximize my ACT score, and I'm finding it difficult to balance accuracy and speed. What's the ideal time to spend on each question for the different sections of the ACT? And how should I adjust this depending on my strengths and weaknesses in each section? Thanks in advance!

The ideal time to spend on each question can vary slightly for each individual, but as a general guideline, you can aim for the following:

1. English: 45 seconds per question - There are 75 questions and a 45-minute time limit, so you'll need to work at a quick pace. Focus on understanding the context in which the errors occur and practice grammar rules.

2. Math: 1 minute per question - The Math section consists of 60 questions with a 60-minute time limit. Keep track of time and don't get stuck on any specific question. You can always come back to a question if you have time remaining.

3. Reading: about 2 minutes and 30 seconds per passage, plus 52 seconds per question - There are four passages with 10 questions each, and the Reading section has a 35-minute time limit. Spend about 2 minutes and 30 seconds to read and understand the passage. Then, allocate the remaining time for answering questions.

4. Science: about 2 minutes and 30 seconds per passage, plus 52 seconds per question - The Science section also has 4 passages with 10 questions per passage and a 35-minute time limit. Like in the Reading section, try to spend about 2 minutes and 30 seconds on each passage, then allocate the remaining time for answering questions.

In terms of adjusting these ideal times to fit your strengths and weaknesses, unfortunately each section is timed individually - you can't return to previous sections or jump ahead if you finish a particular section early. During your studying, however, you might want to spend more time practicing your pacing in your shakier subjects.

As you study, ensure that you simulate the actual test conditions by attempting full-length practice tests. Consistently track your progress and adjust your strategy according to the results. Remember that practice is crucial to improve your speed and accuracy on the ACT. Good luck!
