How hard is it to get into Fordham?

I've been looking at Fordham as one of the colleges I'm interested in applying to, but I'm not sure how difficult it is to get in. What are the average GPA and test scores for accepted students? Are there any tips you can give for improving my chances?

Fordham University is a moderately selective school, with an acceptance rate of around 46%. To give you an idea of the academic profile of accepted students, the middle 50% SAT scores for admitted students generally range from 1393 to 1460, and the middle 50% ACT scores range from 30 to 33. A competitive GPA for Fordham applicants is around 3.71 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

While these numbers can provide a general idea of what Fordham is looking for, it's important to remember that the admissions process evaluates applicants holistically. This means that your extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation also play a significant role in the admissions process.

Here are a few tips to improve your chances of getting into Fordham:

1. Work on maintaining or raising your GPA: A strong GPA is crucial for demonstrating your academic prowess. Focus on challenging yourself with a rigorous course load, including AP or IB classes if possible, and maintain a high level of performance in your classes.

2. Participate in extracurricular activities: Being involved in a mix of extracurricular activities that align with your interests and demonstrate leadership, commitment, and passion can strengthen your application. Aim to excel in a few activities, rather than spreading yourself too thin across numerous clubs or organizations.

3. Write strong essays: Fordham asks for a supplementary essay in addition to the Common Application essay. Be sure to write a thoughtful and engaging response by showcasing your unique perspective, experiences, and connection to the school. Research Fordham's academic programs, values, and campus culture, and highlight why you would be a good fit at the university.

4. Obtain compelling letters of recommendation: Request letters from teachers or mentors who know you well and can speak to your strengths, dedication, and growth as a student.

5. Prepare well for standardized tests: While 2024-2025 application cycle remains test-optional for Fordham, submitting strong scores can demonstrate your academic abilities if they're within or above the middle 50% range for the university. Consider taking the SAT or ACT multiple times and use available resources to study and improve your scores.

6. Apply Early Action: Applying Early Action (non-binding) can demonstrate your interest in Fordham, as well as shorten the waiting period before learning about your admission decision. However, be sure to have your application materials ready and polished to meet the Early Action deadline.

Remember, these are general recommendations for improving your chances at Fordham, but they may also apply to other universities if you have a list of target schools. Good luck with your college application process!
