How much does the ACT typically cost?

I'm starting to look into registering for the ACT, but I'm not sure how much it costs. Can anyone give me an idea of the typical registration fee and whether there are any additional expenses I should be aware of?

The cost of the ACT can vary depending on the specific test option and additional services you choose. As of the 2024-2025 test cycle, here is a breakdown of the costs:

1. ACT (no writing): $68 - This option covers the basic ACT without the optional writing section.

2. ACT with writing: $93 - This option includes the ACT along with the optional writing section. Some colleges may require or recommend the writing section, so it's important to check each school's application guidelines.

There may be additional expenses, such as:

1. Late registration: $38 - If you miss the regular registration deadline, you'll be charged an additional late fee.

2. Test date change: $44 - If you need to reschedule your test date, there will be a fee for making the change.

3. Test center change: $44 - Similarly, if you need to change the test center location where you'll take the ACT, there is a fee as well.

4. Additional score reports: The first four score reports sent to colleges are free if you select the colleges during registration. After that or if you decide to send scores to additional colleges later, it will cost $16 per report for regular processing, and $17 per report for priority processing (faster delivery).

Keep in mind that there are fee waivers available for eligible students, which can cover the cost of the basic ACT (with or without writing). To be eligible, you'll need to be in 11th or 12th grade, be a U.S. citizen or testing within the U.S., and meet specific income guidelines. Reach out to your school counselor to discuss your eligibility and obtain a fee waiver if you qualify.
