Is taking the SAT free or do we have to pay fees?

Hey guys, I'll be taking the SAT soon, and I was wondering if it's free or if we have to pay any fees? Also, are there any fee waivers available to help cover those costs? Thanks!

The SAT is not free, and you have to pay fees to take the test. As of 2024, the registration fee for the digital SAT in the United States is $60. Note that additional fees may apply if you need to change your test date, test center, or make other adjustments to your registration.

However, fee waivers are available to help eligible students cover the costs associated with taking the SAT. To be eligible for a fee waiver, you typically need to be enrolled in or eligible for the National School Lunch Program, receive public assistance, or meet income eligibility guidelines. These fee waivers can cover the cost of the SAT itself, as well as provide additional benefits like waived registration fees for up to two SAT Subject Tests, free score reports to send to colleges, and waived college application fees at participating institutions.

If you believe you may be eligible for an SAT fee waiver, you should speak to your school counselor or another authorized school representative. They will be able to help you determine if you qualify and provide you with the necessary paperwork to apply for a fee waiver. You can also find additional information on fee waivers and eligibility requirements on the College Board's website.

Remember to prepare well for the SAT, and make use of available resources like free practice tests and study materials online to help you perform your best on the test day. Good luck!
