When should I start studying for the ACT?

Hey all, I'm planning to take the ACT in the fall of my senior year, and I'm not sure when I should start studying for it. How far in advance did you start studying, and do you have any tips for creating a study schedule? Thanks for any advice!

Hey there! It's great that you're thinking ahead about your ACT preparation. In general, it's a good idea to start studying at least 3-4 months before your test date. This will give you enough time to familiarize yourself with the test format, learn strategies, and practice on various topics.

When my child was preparing for the ACT, we found that creating a study schedule was very helpful. Start by determining how many hours you can realistically dedicate to studying each week. Then, divide those hours among the different sections of the test (English, Math, Reading, and Science). You might want to allocate more time to areas where you feel less confident.

In addition to self-study, consider using online resources like CollegeVine, Khan Academy, or ACT Academy for practice questions and study materials. Don't forget to take full-length practice tests to gauge your progress and identify areas for improvement. Lastly, remember to take breaks and practice self-care during this process. Good luck with your ACT prep!
