Navigating the ACT Timings

Hey, I just wanted to double-check something about the ACT—could someone please help me with the exact timings for each section (English, Math, Reading, and Science)? Also, are there any breaks in between sections? Just trying to get a better idea of what to expect on test day. Thanks!

Sure, I'd be happy to help you with the exact timings for each section of the ACT! Here's a rundown of the test format and timing:

1. English: 45 minutes (75 questions) — You'll have about 36 seconds per question.

2. Math: 60 minutes (60 questions) — You'll have about 1 minute per question.

After the Math section, you'll have a 10-15 minute break.

3. Reading: 35 minutes (40 questions) — You'll have about 52.5 seconds per question. The Reading section is divided into 4 passages with 10 questions each.

4. Science: 35 minutes (40 questions) — You'll have about 52.5 seconds per question. The Science section is also composed of 6-7 passages.

Additionally, if you choose to take the optional Writing section, you'll have another break of around 5 minutes before starting the Writing section:

5. Writing (Optional): 40 minutes (1 essay prompt)

In total, the ACT without Writing takes 2 hours and 55 minutes, and the ACT with Writing takes 3 hours and 35 minutes. Keep in mind that you'll also have some extra minutes for test administration tasks and instructions before and during the exam.

Remember to practice your pacing and get used to the test's structure before the actual test day. Best of luck in your preparation!
