Switching from sports to arts during high school?

Hi everyone! I've been a dedicated athlete throughout my freshman and sophomore years, but I've now discovered a passion for the arts. If I decide to switch from sports to the arts (such as theater or painting), would colleges see this as a weakness or lack of commitment? I'm planning on applying to schools like USC and Boston College. Thanks for any help!

Hi there! It's great that you've discovered a new passion for the arts. Embracing and pursuing new interests is a valuable part of your high school experience. Colleges appreciate well-rounded students and those who are not afraid to explore different areas, which could add diversity to their campus.

If you have made significant achievements in sports during your freshman and sophomore years, make sure to include that in your application. At the same time, show your enthusiasm and commitment to the arts, whether it be through participating in school productions or attending local art classes.

It's important to convey your growth and adaptability when telling your story in your college application. The key is to demonstrate your true interest in both activities and your ability to dedicate yourself to both of them during different stages of high school.

Good luck with your journey in the arts and with your college applications!
