What is the SAT score range?

Hi everyone! Can someone tell me what the current SAT score range is? I just took it for the first time and I'm not sure how to interpret my score. Thanks for your help!

The current SAT score range is from 400 to 1600, with 1600 being the highest possible score. The test is divided into two sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (ERW) and Math. Each section is scored on a scale of 200 to 800, with the two section scores added together to form your total SAT score.

To better understand your score, you can compare it to the national average and the middle 50% range of SAT scores for admitted students at the colleges you're interested in. The national average SAT score usually falls around 1050, but keep in mind that the middle 50% range can vary significantly between different schools. For more competitive institutions, the middle 50% range is generally higher, while for less selective schools, it might be closer to or below the national average.

Additionally, remember that while your SAT score is an important part of your college application, colleges use a holistic approach when reviewing applications, so other factors like your GPA, extracurricular activities, essays, and recommendations will also play a significant role in the admissions process. Good luck!
