Is a scholarship considered an award or honor?

I recently received a scholarship, and I'm not sure if I should list it as an award or an honor on my college applications. Could someone provide some advice on how to categorize it?

Congratulations on your scholarship! In terms of listing it on your college applications, a scholarship can be considered both an award and an honor. When you categorize it, think about the context in which you received the scholarship and what it represents. If the scholarship was granted based on merit, such as academic achievement or exceptional talent in a specific area, it's appropriate to list it as an honor. If the scholarship was a competitive one that you had to apply for and you were selected among other applicants, it's more fitting to list it as an award.

Ultimately, the distinction between award and honor is not too significant, as colleges will recognize both categories as accomplishments. The important thing is to highlight the accomplishment itself, along with any relevant details (e.g., the scholarship's purpose, the selection criteria or the number of recipients), to showcase its significance and the effort you put into earning it.
