Help with SUNY Campuses?

Hi everyone, I'm considering applying to some SUNY schools and I'm a bit overwhelmed by how many campuses there are. Does anyone have any insight on the different SUNY campuses and what each one is known for? Also, if you have any tips on how to decide which SUNY schools to apply to, I'd appreciate the advice! Thanks a bunch!

I can understand why you'd feel overwhelmed with the number of SUNY campuses. Here's a brief overview of some of the more well-known SUNY schools and their areas of strength:

1. Binghamton University: Binghamton is considered one of the top SUNY schools and has a strong reputation overall. The university has highly-ranked business and engineering programs, as well as research opportunities.

2. SUNY University at Buffalo: Known for its research, engineering, and business programs, the University at Buffalo is another strong choice among SUNY campuses. Additionally, it has a respected School of Architecture and Planning.

3. Stony Brook University: Particularly strong in areas like engineering, computer science, and health sciences. Stony Brook is home to a well-regarded School of Medicine and College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

4. SUNY Geneseo: A smaller, liberal arts-focused school compared to the others mentioned above, Geneseo is known for its solid humanities and social sciences programs.

5. SUNY Oneonta: Primarily known for its education, music, and business programs. The college has a relatively small student population, making it a good choice if you prefer a close-knit community.

6. SUNY Purchase: A school known for its arts programs (performing arts, visual arts, and creative writing), SUNY Purchase has a strong emphasis on creativity and artistic expression.

Keep in mind that the right SUNY campus for you may depend on your intended major, campus size preference, location, and college atmosphere. To decide which campuses to apply to, consider the following steps:

1. Identify your priorities: Make a list of what's important to you in a college experience (academic programs, campus size, location, extracurriculars, etc.).

2. Research each campus: Visit the websites of different SUNY campuses, read about their academic programs, facilities, student life, and rankings.

3. Attend virtual open houses and info sessions: Many schools host online events where you can learn more about the campus, programs, and student experiences.

4. Read student reviews: Websites like College Confidential and Reddit can provide valuable, first-hand perspectives on the campuses.

5. Visit the campuses: If possible, visit the campuses to get a feel for the atmosphere and see if you can see yourself there.

Best of luck as you navigate the SUNY application process!
