Max SAT score achievable?

Hey guys, I'm a junior and just starting to think about taking the SAT. What is the SAT scored out of? I've heard it's out of 1600 but I'm not too sure. Thanks in advance!

You're correct! The SAT is scored on a scale of 400 to 1600, with the highest possible score being 1600. The test consists of two main sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and Math.

Each of these sections is scored on a scale of 200-800, and your total score is the sum of your EBRW score and Math score. So, to get a perfect 1600, you would need to achieve 800 in both the EBRW and Math sections.

Keep in mind that, while preparing well for the SAT is important, even at the most selective schools you don't need to have a perfect 1600 to be admitted. A score anywhere in the 1500s will make you a competitive applicant at just about any school, and there are also many institutions that frequently accept students with comparatively lower SAT scores.

You can usually find information about a school's typical SAT scores for accepted students directly on their website, or through third parties like CollegeVine. Finally, CollegeVine also has a series of free blog posts focused on SAT prep, which you may find helpful as you study for the test: https://blog.collegevine.com/category/standardized-tests/sat/

Good luck with your preparations!
