How many questions on the APUSH exam?

Hey fellow history buffs! I'm taking APUSH this year and I'm wondering how many questions are usually on the exam? Both multiple-choice and free-response questions. Just trying to wrap my head around how much I have to study, haha. Thanks for any info!

Hi there! The AP United States History (APUSH) exam consists of two main sections: multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and free-response questions (FRQs).

Section I (MCQs): This section has 55 multiple-choice questions, which you'll have 1 hour and 35 minutes to complete. The questions are based on primary and secondary sources, such as texts, images, maps, and charts.

Section II (FRQs): This section is divided into two parts— Part A (Short Answer Questions) and Part B (Long Essay Question).

- Part A: You'll be given four short-answer questions (SAQs). You'll need to answer three of them within 40 minutes. The SAQs require brief responses, typically a few sentences or a short paragraph for each of the prompts.

- Part B: You'll have a choice between three long essay questions, and you'll need to select one to answer. You'll have 1 hour and 40 minutes for this part, which also includes a 15-minute reading period. The long essay question often asks you to evaluate historical developments, causations, or continuities over time, requiring a more in-depth and well-organized response.

In summary, you will have to answer a total of 55 multiple-choice questions, 3 short-answer questions, and 1 long essay question on the APUSH exam. Good luck with your preparation and the exam!
