Is a 950 SAT score good, or should I be worried?

Hi! I recently took the SAT and got a 950. I'm a bit stressed about it, and I'm not sure if this is a good enough score. Should I retake the SAT? What kind of colleges would I have a chance at with this score? Thanks!

Hi there! While a 950 SAT score is below the national average, which is around 1060, it doesn't mean that your college options are limited. The important thing is to determine what kind of schools you want to apply to, and whether this score aligns with their typical admission standards. Your SAT score is just one part of your overall application, and colleges often look at a variety of factors, such as grades, extracurricular activities, and essays.

If you're aiming for more selective colleges, it may be a good idea to retake the SAT, as a higher score would improve your chances. In this case, consider additional test prep, such as using resources like Khan Academy, The Bluebook™ app, or taking practice tests to help you improve. Make sure you give yourself enough time to prepare before retaking it.

However, if you're looking at less selective colleges or community colleges, your current score might be sufficient. It's essential to research the admission requirements of the schools you're interested in to see if your score falls within their range. You can often find their average admitted student SAT scores on their websites or by using other resources online. Keep in mind that some colleges are test-optional, which means they do not require applicants to submit standardized test scores.

Lastly, focus on the other aspects of your application, such as maintaining good grades, participating in extracurricular activities, and writing strong essays, to ensure that you present a well-rounded application to colleges. Good luck!
