How much time for the SAT?

For those who have taken the SAT recently, how long did it last, from start to finish? I've heard different things about the test's length and the timing for breaks, and I'd like to know what to expect on test day.

The SAT, since becoming fully digital in Spring 2024, has a revised structure and duration. The test now consists of two sections—Reading and Writing, and Math—each with two modules. Here is the breakdown of the digital SAT:

1. Reading and Writing: Two 32-minute modules with a total of 54 questions. You have approximately 71 seconds per question.

2. Math: Two 35-minute modules with a total of 44 questions. You have 96 seconds per question, or a little over a minute and a half.

The total duration of the digital SAT is 134 minutes, and you'll be answering 98 questions.

In addition to the test time, you'll also have one or two breaks, depending on the test center's scheduling. Typically, there's a short 5 to 10-minute break between the Reading and Writing and Math sections to stretch and regroup. Some test centers may also provide an additional break between the two Math modules.

Considering the test duration, breaks, and the time required for check-in and instructions, you can expect the entire SAT experience to last around 3.5 hours. It's essential to be prepared for this duration, so make sure to bring snacks and water to maintain your energy and focus during the test.

Good luck with your SAT preparation!
