Should I retake the SAT/ACT if my score is slightly below my target school's average?

Hello! I recently took the SAT/ACT and my score is just a bit below the average for my top-choice college. Should I retake the test to try and improve my score, or should I focus on other aspects of my application? Thanks for any advice!

Hi there! It's great to see that you're being proactive about your college application process. If your SAT/ACT score is just slightly below the average for your target school, retaking the test could be beneficial, but it's not the only factor to consider. It's important to remember that colleges look at the whole application, including your GPA, extracurriculars, essays, and recommendations. If you have a strong application overall, a slightly lower test score may not be a dealbreaker. However, if you feel you can significantly improve your score with additional preparation and practice, it might be worth giving it another shot. Ultimately, it depends on your individual circumstances, how much time you have, and what other areas of your application you'd like to work on. Good luck, and I hope you find the right balance to make your application shine!
