Converting ACT writing score?

Hi everyone! I took the ACT with the writing section and received a writing score separately. How do I convert that writing score to fit the 36 scale used for other sections of the test? Is there some kind of official method to do this?

Hey there! The ACT Writing score is a separate score that doesn't really convert to the standard 36-point scale used for the other sections of the test. The Writing score ranges from 2-12, and it isn't factored into your composite score, which comes from the average of your individual section scores in English, Math, Reading, and Science (all scored on a 1-36 scale). There isn't an official way to consolidate the Writing score within the 36-point scale, as it is evaluated independently.

Despite the separate scoring, colleges that require or recommend the ACT Writing section will still take it into account during the application review. Just make sure to report your Writing score alongside your composite score when submitting your ACT scores to colleges.

In short, you don't need to convert your ACT Writing score to match the 36-point scale, as it's designed to be evaluated separately.
