Should I consider Northwestern for its research opportunities?

Hi everyone! I'm a junior beginning to research colleges and I'm interested in Northwestern University. Is Northwestern known for being a research university? Do they provide good research opportunities for undergraduate students, specifically in the field of chemical engineering? Any input would be greatly helpful!

Hello there! Northwestern is indeed a prestigious research university. In the field of chemical engineering, there are plenty of research opportunities available. The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering itself hosts numerous research groups and labs, which focus on different aspects of the discipline such as materials chemistry, molecular engineering, and bioengineering among others. Additionally, students are encouraged to participate in the Undergraduate Research Assistant Program (URAP), through which they can work alongside faculty members on their research projects.

Moreover, Northwestern's location close to Chicago provides an added advantage of forming collaborations with local universities and institutions for more research prospects. Overall, I'd say Northwestern is definitely a place worth considering if research opportunities hold a high priority for you. I hope this helps, and best of luck with your college search!
