Georgia Tech Admissions Difficulty

Hey everyone, I'm a high school junior thinking about applying to Georgia Tech. I know it's a great school for engineering, but how difficult is it to get into? What kind of stats and extracurriculars do people typically need to be competitive?

Georgia Tech is indeed an excellent choice for engineering and is known for its competitive admissions process. To give you a sense of the admissions difficulty, the acceptance rate for the Fall 2021 incoming class was around 20.5%. To be a competitive applicant, you should aim to have strong academic credentials and extracurricular involvement.

For academic performance, the middle 50% range of admitted students' SAT scores in 2021 was 1450-1550, and the middle 50% ACT range was 33-35. Keep in mind that the admissions process is holistic, so being within these ranges doesn't guarantee admission, but it does put you in a good position academically. In terms of coursework, taking rigorous classes like AP or IB courses in STEM fields, particularly if you plan to pursue engineering, would demonstrate your aptitude and commitment to the subject. A high GPA is also an essential factor, with most admitted students typically having a GPA of 3.8 or higher.

As for extracurriculars, successful applicants to Georgia Tech often have backgrounds showcasing leadership, substantial involvement in a few key activities, and a commitment to their chosen engineering or STEM field. Aim for a "spike" in your extracurricular profile, where you have developed a highly-defined area of expertise or specialty. Examples of STEM-focused extracurricular activities could include participating in science olympiads, math competitions, robotics clubs, or pursuing independent research projects.

Remember that Georgia Tech also values well-rounded applicants who demonstrate interests in non-STEM areas, so being involved in activities outside of STEM is a plus. Finally, make sure that your application essays express your genuine interest in Georgia Tech, your passion for engineering or your chosen major, and your unique personal qualities.

Overall, admission to Georgia Tech is competitive, so strive to excel academically and in your extracurriculars to increase your chances of being accepted! Good luck!
