How much is one question worth on the SAT?

Hey y'all, quick question: I'm wondering how much each question is worth on the SAT? Is there a specific point value for correct answers or does it vary by section? Thanks in advance!

Each question on the SAT is generally worth the same amount of points within its respective section, but the scoring does not directly translate to points per question. Instead, the SAT uses a process called "equating." Equating adjusts raw scores, which are the number of questions answered correctly, to each test's unique scale.

The SAT consists of two sections: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW) and Math. EBRW is further divided into the Reading and Writing & Language subsections, while Math is divided into two modules. In the digital SAT format, you'll find:

- Reading and Writing: two 32-minute modules with 54 questions in total

- Math: two 35-minute modules with 44 questions in total.

After completing the test, you'll receive a raw score for each section, which is the number of questions you answered correctly. The College Board then converts these raw scores to scaled scores (ranging from 200 to 800 for each section) using a unique equating process for each test. This equating accounts for slight differences in test difficulty to ensure consistent scoring across different test administrations.

As a result, no specific point value can be assigned to each question on the SAT. However, answering more questions correctly in a section will generally increase your scaled score for that section.

Keep in mind that there's no penalty for guessing on the SAT, so it's always better to attempt to answer every question rather than leaving them blank. Good luck with your SAT preparation!
