MIT's SAT score expectations?

Hey y'all, MIT is my dream school, but I'm not sure if my SAT score is competitive enough. What range of SAT scores are required or expected to get into MIT?

Hello! While MIT has no strict minimum SAT score requirement, looking at the score range for admitted students can be helpful to gauge how competitive your score is. For the class of 2025, the middle 50% SAT score range for admitted students was between 1530 and 1580. This means that 25% of students scored below 1530 and 25% scored above 1580.

Keep in mind that even though a high SAT score can make you a competitive applicant, it's important to understand that MIT has a holistic admissions process, and the entirety of your application—including your essays, extracurriculars, awards, GPA, and other factors—will be considered. So, while it's essential to have a strong SAT score, it's not the only factor that determines admission. If your score falls outside the middle 50% range, it's wise to put extra effort into the other components of your application to stand out in other aspects.

Additionally, it's worth noting that the SAT is just one type of standardized test that MIT accepts. If you feel that your performance on the SAT may not be strong enough, consider taking the ACT as an alternative. Colleges, including MIT, typically accept either test and do not prefer one over the other.

Good luck with your application!
