JMU GPA expectations?

I'm considering applying to James Madison University, and I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the GPA they typically expect from their applicants? How competitive is the GPA game for JMU?

James Madison University (JMU) is moderately selective, and the average GPA of accepted students is generally around 3.55 - 3.8 on a 4.0 unweighted scale. This means that the majority of admitted students have A- to A grade averages in high school. However, the GPA is only one part of your overall application, and JMU does consider other factors like your course rigor, SAT or ACT scores, extracurricular involvement, and essays.

While having a strong GPA will improve your chances of admission, it's important to keep in mind that JMU considers a holistic review process. This means that your application will be evaluated as a whole, rather than solely focusing on your academic performance. Therefore, quality extracurriculars, a strong personal statement, and good standardized test scores (if submitting) can help balance out a slightly lower GPA.

If you find that your GPA is lower than the average range, I'd recommend focusing on other aspects of your application to demonstrate your strengths, growth, and potential. For instance, engaging in community service, showing leadership in clubs or organizations, or impressing with a compelling personal statement can all help make your application more competitive in the admissions process. Additionally, taking rigorous classes such as AP or IB courses and maintaining a good performance could further demonstrate your academic readiness for college.

Good luck with your application!
