Wisconsin student population

Hey everyone, does anyone know the current student population at the University of Wisconsin-Madison? I'm trying to get a feel for the size of the school and how it might affect student life and resources available on campus. Thanks!

Hello! The University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW-Madison) is a fairly large public research university. As of Spring 2024, the total enrollment was around 48,557 students, with approximately 34,212 of those being undergraduates and the rest being graduate students. The campus does span over a large area, but it is well-integrated within the city of Madison.

The size of the school means that there are a lot of resources available for students, including state-of-the-art facilities, a wide range of academic programs, research opportunities, and numerous extracurricular activities. UW-Madison has a vibrant student life, with hundreds of clubs and organizations to join. However, it's worth noting that a larger institution may also mean larger class sizes, particularly for lower-level or popular courses. That being said, as students progress in their academic programs, they typically find smaller class sizes in their upper-level or major-specific courses.

Ultimately, the size of the school can have both positive and negative aspects. It all depends on your personal preferences and what you're looking for in a college experience. If you prefer a tight-knit community or smaller class sizes from the beginning, a smaller college may be a better fit. However, if you're excited about having a lot of resources and opportunities available, as well as a diverse student body, UW-Madison could be a great choice for you.
