UCR Undergraduate Majors: What's the Best Path?

Hey! I recently got accepted to UCR, and I'm unsure about which major to choose. Can anyone who has attended UCR give me some advice on which majors they think are strong at the university and maybe share experiences from their time there? Thanks!

Congratulations on your acceptance to UCR! It's definitely a great school, and you have several strong majors to choose from. While I'm not an attendee of UCR myself, I've heard from many students about their experiences, and I can provide some guidance.

UCR is especially well-known for its strong programs in the natural sciences, engineering, and social sciences. Some popular majors across these fields include:

1. Biological Sciences: If you're interested in exploring biology, UCR offers numerous degree options within both general and specialized focuses, including Biochemistry, Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology, and several others. The campus has great research facilities, and many students engage in undergraduate research.

2. Chemical Engineering: One of the Bourns College of Engineering's best offerings, this major provides students with solid engineering training and opportunities for research and hands-on projects. The department has excellent faculty, and students often collaborate closely with professors.

3. Business Administration: UCR's School of Business has a strong reputation and offers students a solid curriculum with a focus on practical experience. Many students have secured internships and job opportunities thanks to the school's career services and alumni network.

4. Psychology: UCR's Department of Psychology is widely recognized for its robust curriculum and research opportunities. Students can engage in research projects with faculty, and the department focuses on evolutionary psychology, neuroscience, cognitive psychology, and social/personality psychology.

Choosing a major ultimately depends on your personal interests and career goals. Keep in mind that you can also explore different majors through electives before making a final decision. Additionally, I would recommend talking to current students, reaching out to the academic departments, and attending UCR's virtual or in-person admissions events to learn more about specific programs and get a better feel for the campus culture.

Best of luck with your decision!
