Research opportunities at UCLA: what are they like?

Hello! I'm considering applying to UCLA and am really interested in research opportunities available for undergraduates. Can anyone provide some insight on what the research scene at UCLA is like, and if it's well-regarded as a research university? Thanks!

Hi there! My son is currently attending UCLA and has had the opportunity to participate in undergraduate research. I can tell you that UCLA is definitely well-regarded as a research university, being one of the top public universities in the nation.

Undergraduates have many research options across different disciplines. Some common ways students find research opportunities include reaching out to professors directly, applying through the Undergraduate Research Centers (there are different centers for various fields), and attending research fairs held throughout the year.

My son was able to get involved in a psychology lab by talking to his professor after class and expressing his interest. From what he's told me, the research experience has been quite hands-on and he's been able to learn a lot. It requires commitment and good time management skills, but it's definitely a great opportunity for undergraduates to explore their field of interest and gain valuable experience.

I hope this helps give you an idea of what the research scene at UCLA is like. Good luck with your college search and application process!
