Is Yale renowned for its research?

Hey guys, I'm a junior who's interested in applying to Yale, but I was wondering if it's considered a research university. I plan on majoring in something related to environmental studies. Does Yale excel in research or is it more focused on liberal arts? Thanks for your help!

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you're considering Yale for your college journey. Yale is indeed known for its research opportunities. It is part of the Ivy League, and all Ivy League schools emphasize the importance of research alongside a strong liberal arts foundation.

For your interest in environmental studies, Yale has the Yale School of the Environment which offers research opportunities to both undergraduate and graduate students. Many students in the environmental program collaborate with faculty members on various research projects, which can lead to great experiences and connections.

My own child had the opportunity to be part of a research team looking at the impact of plastics in the ocean. This not only provided him with hands-on experience but also allowed him to network with researchers and other professionals in the field.

While Yale does have a strong liberal arts focus, it is also a top research institution. So, if you're interested in pursuing research, Yale could be an excellent fit! Just make sure to explore the available research projects related to your interests and reach out to professors once you're at Yale. Good luck!
