Cornell vs. Bucknell

I've been accepted to both Cornell and Bucknell and I'm having trouble deciding which one to attend. Can anyone give me some advice or share their experiences at either school? Thanks!

Congratulations on your acceptances! Choosing between Cornell and Bucknell is a decision that ultimately depends on your personal preferences and what factors are most important to you. I'll break things down in a few different areas to help you make a more informed decision.

Academics: Cornell is an Ivy League institution with a strong reputation and rigorous academics, boasting a large range of majors and programs. Bucknell is a smaller liberal arts college that also has a solid reputation, but is more well-known for personalized attention and smaller class sizes. Consider what type of academic environment you'll thrive in and the specific programs offered that align with your interests.

Campus Size and Student Population: Cornell has a much larger student body, with around 15,000 undergraduate students, while Bucknell has about 3,600 undergraduates. If you prefer a tight-knit community and smaller class sizes, Bucknell might be a better fit. However, if you're looking for a larger campus with more diverse opportunities, Cornell could be your choice.

Location: Cornell is located in Ithaca, New York, a small city with a vibrant college-town atmosphere surrounded by nature. Bucknell is in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, a small, picturesque town with a charming historic district. Reflect on which setting you feel more comfortable in and excited about living in for four years.

Extracurriculars and Social Life: Both schools offer a wide range of clubs, organizations, and activities. Cornell may have more options due to its larger size, but Bucknell's smaller community will allow you to make closer connections in clubs. Greek life is present at both schools. Compare the extracurriculars offered and determine if there are specific clubs or activities that you're passionate about at each school.

Financial Aid: Compare your financial aid packages from both schools. Make sure to take into account tuition, living expenses, and any additional costs, as well as the resources offered by each school to help you finance your education.

Visit the Campuses: If possible, visit both campuses and attend any admitted students' events. This will give you a chance to experience the campus vibe, talk to current students and professors, and get a feel for which school is a better fit for your personality and goals.

Ultimately, consider what factors are most important to you and compare how Cornell and Bucknell measure up in those areas. Regardless of which school you choose, you'll likely have a fantastic college experience at either institution. Good luck in making your decision!
