How to calculate college GPA at Texas A&M?

I'm considering applying to Texas A&M and was wondering how they calculate college GPA. Do they use a different scale than the standard 4.0, or is it the same? Also, does Texas A&M weigh honors/AP classes differently?

At Texas A&M University, they primarily use the standard 4.0 GPA scale when evaluating applicants. The scale is as follows:

A = 4.0

B = 3.0

C = 2.0

D = 1.0

F = 0.0

However, Texas A&M does take your high school's weighting system into account if it's provided on your transcript. For example, if your high school uses weighted GPAs for honors or Advanced Placement (AP) courses and it's reflected on your transcript, Admissions will consider that when reviewing your application. They don't assign a specific weight to these courses, but they do look at the rigor of your coursework in the context of what was available at your high school.

To calculate your GPA, you can use the following steps:

1. For each completed semester/course, assign the grade points (4.0 for A, 3.0 for B, and so on) based on the letter grade you earned.

2. If your high school weights honors/AP classes, find out the additional grade points they add and apply them to your course grade (for example, if your school adds 1.0 for AP courses, an A would be 5.0 instead of 4.0).

3. Multiply each grade point by the number of credit hours associated with the course.

4. Sum the results from step 3.

5. Divide the sum from step 4 by the total number of attempted credit hours.

Keep in mind that, although GPA is important, Texas A&M looks at your application holistically, considering factors such as your essays, extracurricular activities, and demonstrated leadership. Make sure you highlight your strengths and tell your story in your application to help you stand out.
