What determines a high GPA in college?

What's considered a really high college GPA? I'm trying to set some goals for myself and I'm not sure what to aim for once I get into college.

A high college GPA can vary depending on the college, major, and rigor of the classes. However, generally speaking, a GPA of 3.5 or above is considered quite good, with anything above a 3.7 being considered highly competitive. Here are some benchmarks to give you an idea:
