academic grading question: how good is an 83?

I recently received an 83 for a class grade and am wondering if that's a good grade to have on my transcript during the college application process. Thoughts?

An 83 as a class grade is generally seen as an above-average grade, usually interpreted as a B or B-. While it's not a low grade, highly competitive colleges tend to seek students with consistently high grades, often with A's or at least in the high B's range.

However, it's important to keep in mind that your overall performance and other factors in the application process also play a role. If this 83 is an isolated grade and you otherwise perform well in your courses, it may not have a significant impact on your college application. Additionally, if the class was particularly rigorous or in a subject area that is unrelated to your intended major, it may be viewed with more leniency by college admissions officers.

Make sure to focus on other aspects of your application to strengthen your profile, such as extracurricular activities that demonstrate your passion and commitment, high standardized test scores (if required by the specific college), and well-crafted personal essays that showcase your unique experiences and perspectives.

In summary, while an 83 isn't an ideal grade for highly competitive colleges, it's not a deal-breaker either. Keep working to maintain a high academic performance, and balance your application with strong involvement in extracurricular activities and a genuine demonstration of interest in your intended field.
