Is a 24 on the ACT considered good?

Hi guys, I just got my ACT results and scored a 24. I'm a little bit stressed about it. Is it considered a good score or should I retake it?

A 24 on the ACT is a decent score, placing you in the 78th percentile of test-takers nationally. This means you scored better than around 78% of students who took the ACT. However, whether it's considered "good" or not depends on the colleges you're interested in applying to, as well as your academic and extracurricular profile.

To determine if your 24 is a good fit for the schools you're targeting, research the middle 50% ACT scores of admitted students at those schools. If your score falls within or above that range, your chances of admission may be more favorable. If it falls below the range, retaking the ACT might be a good idea.

It's also important to consider the overall competitiveness of your college list. If you're aiming for more selective colleges, a higher ACT score will likely be expected. To better your chances there, you should consider retaking the test after preparing more thoroughly. If you're aiming for less selective colleges, a 24 might be more than enough, and you can focus on other aspects of your application, such as your GPA, essays, and extracurriculars.

Lastly, keep in mind that many colleges have adopted test-optional policies due to the pandemic, and some have opted to continue this practice. This means that you can choose not to submit your ACT score at these schools. Do research on the specific testing policies of the colleges you're interested in to gain a better understanding of whether submitting a 24 ACT score would truly impact your application.
