Looking for colleges with strong child psychology programs

I am a high school junior who wants to study child psychology in college. Can anyone recommend colleges that have strong programs in this area? Preferably schools that have a good mix of research and practical experience. Thanks!

While programs in child psychology specifically are usually at the graduate level, for undergraduate programs you can look into schools with a strong overall reputation in psychology, and particular opportunities related to child psychology. Some options are:

1. University of Minnesota (Twin Cities): Their Institute of Child Development offers numerous research opportunities with renowned faculty in areas such as social-emotional development, cognitive development, and more. Additionally, they have community engagement, practicum, and internship opportunities for hands-on experience in applied settings.

2. Stanford University: At Stanford, you will find a strong Psychology department with faculty specializing in developmental psychology. Many of the professors research various aspects of child development, and provide opportunities for undergraduates to gain research and practical experience.

3. University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA): The Psychology department at UCLA offers coursework in developmental psychology, which is directly related to child psychology. With an emphasis on both research and clinical training, students can engage in several laboratories, practicum experiences, and volunteer opportunities.

4. University of Michigan (Ann Arbor): UMich's Department of Psychology provides numerous research opportunities on child development. Students can also participate in various clinical and community-based practicums and internships to gain practical experience.

5. Vanderbilt University: The Peabody College at Vanderbilt has a strong emphasis on developmental science that includes child psychology. They have top-notch faculty and offer research and hands-on experiences in educational, clinical, and community settings.

Of course, there are many other universities with great opportunities for you to explore your passion for child psychology. It's essential to evaluate each program based on factors like location, size, cost, and campus culture to find the best overall fit for your personal preferences and career goals. Good luck with your search!
