Rice University's automatic admission: How does it work?

Hi folks! I heard that Rice University has an automatic admission policy for some high-achieving students. Does anyone here have any info on the criteria or the process for this? I'd love to learn more about it. Cheers!

Hi there! While it's true that the Texas House Bill 588, also known as the "Top 10% Rule," mandates that Texas public universities admit the top students of an accredited Texas high school's graduating class, this unfortunately does not apply to Rice as it is a private institution.

If you want to take advantage of the automatic admission policy, I would recommend looking at public schools in Texas like UT Austin, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, the University of Houston, Texas State University, or many others.

I would definitely still recommend applying to Rice, and I wish you all the best of luck with your application! While there's no way to guarantee admission, there are still tips and tricks you can use to maximize your chances of success.

For example, this blog post from CollegeVine contains detailed guidance on how to break down Rice's school-specific supplemental essays: https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-write-the-rice-university-essays/. At selective schools like Rice, the essays are a great way to give yourself a boost by showcasing what you have to offer beyond the numbers.

Good luck!
