RISD Average GPA

I'm looking into applying to the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), but I'm a little concerned about my GPA. Does anyone know what the average GPA is for admitted students? Thanks!

On their website, RISD doesn't publish a specific average GPA for admitted students. However, they do emphasize that they consider applicants holistically, taking into account not only your academic performance but also your artistic talents and other aspects of your application.

With that in mind, RISD is a highly competitive art and design school, with an acceptance rate around 20%. Competitive applicants typically have strong academic records in addition to their artistic abilities. While there is no specific GPA requirement, it's safe to say that a higher GPA will make your application more competitive. In general, aiming for a 3.5 GPA or higher would likely be considered strong.

However, your artistic portfolio is a critical part of your RISD application, as it's a key way for the admissions committee to judge your skills and passion for art and design. If your portfolio is exceptionally strong, it might help offset a lower GPA. Conversely, a high GPA alone won't guarantee admission if your portfolio isn't competitive.

Make sure to also focus on other aspects of your application, such as your personal essay, extracurriculars, and letters of recommendation. These components can enhance your application and help demonstrate your commitment to and passion for art and design.
