Cal Poly SLO diversity?

Hi all, just wondering about Cal Poly San Luis Obispo's diversity and campus culture. What is the demographic makeup like? Do they have any clubs or organizations that promote inclusivity?

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo is known for having a predominantly white student population, with a lower percentage of underrepresented minorities compared to some other California universities. However, the university has been making efforts to increase diversity on campus.

As of Fall 2023, the demographic breakdown of the undergraduate student body was approximately 49.6% White, 22.9% Hispanic/Latinx, 14.3% Asian, 0.7% African American/Black, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 0.1% Native American, and 10.8% multiracial/other/unknown. International students make up around 1.3% of the student body. Keep in mind that these statistics may change slightly over time.

Cal Poly SLO has several clubs and organizations aimed at promoting diversity and inclusivity. Some of these organizations include cultural clubs, gender and sexuality alliances, clubs for students with disabilities, and clubs centered on promoting allyship and inclusivity. Examples of these clubs are the MultiCultural Center (MCC), Black Student Union (BSU), Queer Student Union (QSU), and the Latino Student Association (LSA), among others. Additionally, Cal Poly SLO offers resources through its Office of University Diversity and Inclusivity.

In terms of campus culture, while diversity has been an area of growth for Cal Poly SLO, many students appreciate the university's commitment to improving inclusivity and promoting a welcoming environment. Joining clubs and organizations that align with your interests and values can be a great way to connect with like-minded peers and create a sense of belonging on campus.
