D3 lacrosse schools: What's the recruiting process like?

Hey everyone! I'm really into lacrosse and I'm starting to think about college. Can anyone share their experiences with the recruiting process at Division 3 lacrosse schools? Are there any showcases or camps I should be attending? Thanks!

Hello! The recruiting process for Division 3 (D3) lacrosse is indeed a little different from Division 1 (D1) and Division 2 (D2) schools, as D3 colleges do not give out athletic scholarships and have a greater focus on academics. However, that doesn't mean they aren't competitive and serious about their sports.

To get started with the recruiting process, you'll want to create a list of colleges that fit your academic, social, and athletic interests. Research lacrosse programs at D3 schools and reach out to the coaches with a well-crafted introduction email, which should include details about your academic achievements, athletics accomplishments, and a link to video highlights, if possible.

It is absolutely a good idea to attend showcases, prospect days, and camps specific to lacrosse. Participating in these events can provide you with exposure to college coaches, giving them a chance to see your skills and potential. Try to find events where coaches from your target colleges will be present. Be proactive, and email the coaches ahead of time to let them know which events you'll be attending.

Keep in mind that while D3 schools don't offer athletic scholarships, they do offer significant financial aid packages based on a combination of academic performance and demonstrated financial need. So, maintaining a strong academic record is critical, as it can open up more opportunities for non-athletic scholarships.

Lastly, communicate regularly with the coaches at the colleges you're interested in. Coaches at D3 schools put considerable emphasis on knowing the student-athletes they recruit, as they want to ensure you'll be a good fit for both their team and the school as a whole.

Best of luck with your recruiting process, and I hope you find the perfect fit in a D3 lacrosse program!
