What does early decision 2 mean?

Hey friends, I'm currently researching colleges to apply to and have seen the term 'Early Decision 2' a few times. I'm not sure what it means or how it differs from regular early decision. Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello! Early Decision 2 (ED2) is a great question. To put it simply, ED2 functions similarly to the regular Early Decision (ED) admissions process, but with later deadlines. Both options are binding, meaning if you're accepted, you're committing to attend that college.

The main difference is that ED2 deadlines are typically in January, as opposed to November for regular ED. This gives students more time to finalize their college list, improve their applications, and gather more information about financial aid and scholarships. Results for ED2 are usually released in February.

ED2 is a great option for students who may have missed the regular ED deadline or who didn't get into their first-choice school through ED or Early Action (EA). Just like with ED, demonstrating your strong commitment to a specific college through ED2 can increase your chances of getting accepted. Make sure to weigh your options and consider the binding commitment before choosing this path. Best of luck on your college journey!
