Are BU, Duke, and NYU considered research universities?

Hi everyone, I'm putting together a list of schools to apply to, and I want to make sure I have a variety of options that would cater to my interests. My top choices right now are Boston University, Duke University, and New York University. I plan to pursue a degree in biomedical engineering, so I'm wondering if these universities are known for their research activities in this field? Any insights about these schools, especially regarding research opportunities and programs, would be super helpful! Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It's great that you're considering options that align with your interests. To answer your question, yes, all three universities – Boston University, Duke University, and New York University – are considered research universities. They each offer extensive research opportunities and resources to their students.

For example, Boston University has the Biomedical Engineering Department, which is known for cutting-edge research in fields like tissue engineering and neural engineering. At Duke, the Pratt School of Engineering has the Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is consistently ranked among the top biomedical engineering programs nationwide. The department focuses on research areas such as biomolecular and tissue engineering, among others. Lastly, NYU's Tandon School of Engineering offers research opportunities in fields like biomechanics and neuroengineering within their Department of Biomedical Engineering.

Given their strong emphasis on research and solid biomedical engineering departments, I think any of these universities would be a great fit for your interests. Best of luck with your applications!
