Minimum GPA for Texas Tech

Hi everyone, I'm curious about applying to Texas Tech. Could anyone tell me the minimum GPA they typically look for in applicants? Thanks for the info!

Hello! While Texas Tech doesn't have a strict minimum GPA requirement for admission, it's important to still strive for a competitive GPA to increase your chances of being accepted. Admitted students typically have a high school GPA of around 3.0 - 4.0 on a 4.0 scale. However, keep in mind that the admissions process is comprehensive and will also take into account other factors, such as your course rigor, standardized test scores (if submitted), extracurricular activities, and essays.

To give you a better idea, Texas Tech employs an "assured admission" process based on a combination of your high school class rank and ACT/SAT scores. For example, if you are in the top 10% of your high school class, you are admitted without minimum SAT/ACT score requirements. However, if you're in the top 25% of your class, you'd need an SAT score of at least 1180 (Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections combined) or an ACT composite score of 24. The requirements become more stringent as your class rank decreases.

Even if you don't meet these assured admission criteria, you can still be considered for admission through a holistic review process that factors in all aspects of your application.

So, while there is no strict minimum GPA, aiming for a higher GPA, along with a strong overall application, will put you in a better position when applying to Texas Tech. Good luck!
