Does anyone know what the term 'research-intensive university' means?

In my college research, I've noticed that some schools are referred to as 'research-intensive universities.' What does this mean, and how would that be different from other universities? Would such a university be more suitable for someone planning on pursuing a career in research or academia? I'm considering majoring in Biology, so I'm trying to understand if this would be a good fit for me. Thank you!

Hello! 'Research-intensive university' usually refers to a college or university that places a strong emphasis on research activities, often within and outside of the classroom. These institutions typically allocate substantial resources to support various research projects, and faculty members are encouraged to actively engage in research alongside their teaching duties.

Indeed, a research-intensive university may provide additional opportunities for undergraduates to participate in research, making it a good fit for students interested in pursuing careers in research or academia. As a biology major, you may benefit from working on cutting-edge research, learning from faculty members who are experts in their field, and having access to state-of-the-art research facilities.

Keep in mind, however, that your overall college experience will depend on various factors, so it's important to consider other aspects of potential universities as well. Good luck with your college search!
