Economics major at UCSC: any experiences?

I'm seriously considering applying to UC Santa Cruz as an economics major, but I'm not sure what the program is like. Anyone here been through it and can tell me about their experiences? Are the professors supportive, and were you able to find internships?

I can't speak from personal experience, but I can give you some insights into the economics program at UC Santa Cruz. UCSC is known for its strong faculty in the economics department, and students often report that professors are knowledgeable and supportive. Some professors have even won prestigious awards in their fields. However, like at any university, you may find that teaching styles differ, so it's always a good idea to read course reviews or talk to current students to find the best fit for your learning style.

In terms of internships, UCSC students have access to the campus Career Center, which provides resources and support to help you find and secure internships related to your major. They host events such as career fairs and workshops to help with resume writing, cover letters, and interview skills. You can also work closely with your professors and academic advisors, who may have connections to potential internships in the field of economics.

As for extracurricular opportunities, there are student organizations you can join that cater specifically to students interested in economics. These clubs can offer networking opportunities, events, and even educational trips. Participating in these organizations can help you build your resume and develop valuable skills for your future career.

Overall, while individual experiences may vary, many students find that the economics major at UC Santa Cruz offers a challenging and rewarding academic experience, combined with opportunities for personal and professional growth. It would be a good idea to visit the campus if possible and talk to current economics students to get firsthand accounts of their experiences. Good luck with your application!
