Hello, I recently scored a 1500 on the SAT. I'm not sure if this score will be strong enough to increase my chances of being admitted to an Ivy League school. Can anyone offer some guidance on whether this is a competitive score? Thanks!
Hello! Congratulations on your 1500 SAT score; that's a great accomplishment! To answer your question, a 1500 SAT score is generally considered competitive for Ivy League schools, as it falls within the range of accepted scores for many of them. Accepted students at Dartmouth, for example, have a middle 50% of 1440-1560 on the SAT, so you're pretty much right in the middle of what admissions officers technically look for.
Obviously, the higher your score, the better, but unless you think you'll be able to boost your score significantly (to a 1550 or higher), the time you'd spend studying for the test will likely be better spent on doing your best to earn high grades, invest in your extracurriculars, and eventually, write and edit your college essays. Since your SAT score is already in the range of what Ivy League schools look for, time and energy spent on other parts of your application will likely give you more of a boost than only a small increase in your score.
Keep up the good work and best of luck with your college applications!
