Forensic Psychology Major Colleges

Hello! I've been really interested in forensic psychology lately and I want to pursue it in college. Does anyone know which colleges have a strong program or major in forensic psychology? Thanks for the help!

Forensic psychology is a specialized field, so there aren't many colleges that offer a specific major in it at the undergraduate level. Many students interested in forensic psychology choose to major in psychology and then pursue a focus in forensic psychology during their graduate studies. That being said, some schools do have an undergraduate forensic psychology program or a related major that can prepare you for a career in the field.

1. John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY John Jay) in New York City offers a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Psychology, which provides rigorous coursework and opportunities for fieldwork and research in forensic psychology. They also offer a Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology and a joint BA/MA program.

2. Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, offers a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic & Legal Psychology that combines psychology, criminology, and legal studies. Students gain exposure to research methods, statistical analysis, and psychological and legal theories relevant to the criminal justice system.

3. Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida, has a Bachelor of Arts in Forensic Psychology that offers students an interdisciplinary curriculum combining coursework in psychology, criminal justice, and science.

4. The University of Denver in Colorado has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology. This interdisciplinary program covers criminal justice, law, and psychological principles.

5. Castleton University in Vermont offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a concentration in Forensic Psychology, which allows students to develop a strong foundation in psychological and criminal justice principles.

These are just a few examples of schools with forensic psychology programs or related majors. To increase your chances of success in this field, consider attending a college with a strong psychology department or strong criminal justice/law programs. Gaining internship experience and conducting research in forensic psychology during your undergraduate years will also be valuable. Remember, though, that most careers in forensic psychology require a master's or doctoral degree in forensic psychology or a related field.
